7 tips for guarding your Internet of Things - Technoscripts

Yeah!!!
I thought I just bought 3 smart devices...
  1. Poco F1
  2. Galaxy Hand Watch
  3. Amazon Echo
respectively... but why everyone is referring these devices as IOT's.

Ok!

I searched and Yeah damn cool!!! the name IOT is really sexy.

Let's get on to the topic.

As we are aware of the fact that IoT devices are nothing but a lesser yet quite effective version of the computer systems.

The difference is that we don't have permission to do much at the backend of these devices as we can do in our computer systems.

We cannot crack that on what software the particular IOT device is running or whether the patching of the particular IOT device is perfect or not or even is the device guarded properly?

Basically, the aim of these devices is to increase the standards of our lifestyle and side by side entertain us.

And Yes! Of course what more could be done with a smart washing machine other than washing clothes and drying them or furthermore let's say maybe ironing them?

One thing is to be noted that they are not necessary for one's life but many of us just buy them because we like them and I am one of them, maybe you also.

This is the golden modern era of gadgets for the 90s people as they are the first generation that is properly enjoying the facilities of these IOT's.

Ok, that's enough for the description of IOT, now you people must have got an idea of IOT so now we shall move on the tips and tricks on how one can safeguard their IOT as well as their privacy.

Here are the 7 tips which are surely gonna help you to stay safe and fully private

1. Approximately every smart device has a common feature and i.e Wi-Fi. And Wi-Fi's, provides a special ease to its users which is, "you don't have to connect manually every time you want to use Wi-Fi" this means the Wi-Fi automatically traces your device's connection and if found in the pairing mode it's gonna automatically fetch the details and yes you are now connected to the Wi-Fi.
    #Fetch_the_details

    Doesn't this sound creepy?

Ever Wondered how without taking your permission your device gets paired to some other device every time?

When it can connect automatically why cant it share the details of your IOT device to the other device, after all, it is a machine, faults can happen.
    • Mobiles blast
    • Network gets lost
    • Your call is gets connected to some other destination sometimes etc
So the point is that if your router permits you to make a separate network for outsiders you shall do it as it will make your paired device safe as well as the network also.

    2. Developers say that video cameras and many other IoT devices can talk to the routers and can also ask to open up the inbound holes so that they can actually receive connections from unknown devices.

This activity of the devices exposes your particular device to the rest of the world.

Tip:- Turn off the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) on your router as well as onto your IoT device also if possible to prevent from this susceptibility.

Do not believe that "no one is going to notice" whenever you gonna hook up your device for the very first time there are some special search engines that move out of their way just to crawl and index these open online devices irrespective of your consent whether you want to be paired or not.

    3. Always try to keep the firmware update on your every IoT device.

Patching is as important as it is for your PC.

Yeah Yeah Yeah I know Patching/searching for updates is little bit time consuming and boring too but we shall make it a habit and we all know no habit has ever been looked boring to anyone.

This is actually a small #quid_pro-quo(something in return) type deal for maintaining the safety and security of the devices.

    4. Passwords are one of the very common yet effective parts of the security on which the security system heavily depends.

Passwords must be chosen very carefully and if they are not related to your crush or first love then I will recommend you note them down somewhere for your remembrance.

Uniqueness is important but does not ever make the password so complex that they get onto your nerves.

Recently cases have been seen where bugs have occurred and hackers by tricking the devices have fetched the data or information.

Tip:- One device, One Password very similar to MODI JI's policy One nation, One tax.

    5. Try to purchase or I would rather say arrange your choices in such a way that in the end, you finish buying devices that are not having a cloud feature or can also work without this particular feature.

Reports have said that devices that have this cloud service are prone to security risks and hacking.

    6. Try to pair the IoT devices only when needed and as soon as the requirement of the network is over don't forget to unpair the device.

Tip:- If you want to see IPL on your TV set and you are having some antenna connection then there is no need to connect the TV form your internet network.

Also, make it a habit to just eliminate all the other unknown network connections whenever possible.

    7. Neglect carrying your IoT devices to your work location if possible and also try not to connect your IOS device to your employer's connection as your employer's connection may be insecure and through his connection, someone can hack your device and steal the important data.

Mind you this small silly mistake of you can put you as well as your company in danger.

So these were the 7 tips regarding How you can safeguard your IoT devices and your privacy.

I hope after reading this article you shall keep these important facts in mind whenever you will be playing with your IOTs.

Thanks for giving your quality time. :)

My experience of IoT with TechnoScripts

I n the final year of my graduation, I was not sure what to pursue further in order to enhance my future. The main reason behind the origin of thinking was that I was not attaining anything for which I shall be proud or satisfied. But I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by people who were really talented and experienced and those were my faculty members of the college. I directly went to them and asked for their help. After exchanging of thoughts they suggested things according to my interests and potential, after taking their ideas I googled the trending technology and while I was scrolling my eyes got stuck onto a very interesting and the attractive result of the SERP which was published by  Technoscripts  and the title of the blog was  " Future of the World Interconnected through IoT(Internet of Things) by 2020 - TechnoScripts " After I read the blog I was really impressed by the future opportunities & scope of this particular domain and as a resul...
